The project reveals the growing
pull of Chinese buyers in addition to China's broader hard work to establish
homegrown software to offset U.S. technology giants like Google Inc and Apple
Inc. for HTC. It would also be the final close of plans to form its own OS, an
objective that the company uttered two years ago.
Though several of employees of HTC can
speak Chinese, the brand is still a novice in China. HTC has begun selling
under its own brand in China ever since 2010 and before that it was selling
under the brand name of Dopod. China-specific software of HTC would play into a
wider Chinese government policy to influence the establishment of a unique
local software ecosystem to reduce dependence on Western companies.
It is not clear whether China
operating system of HTC will be fully proprietary or will incorporate on top of
Android. Plans have altered over the prior year in order to identify whether it
would be an entirely different operating system or a user interface assembled
on top of Android, as said by the people having the knowledge of the matter. Now Samsung
Electronics Co., Ltd. is
making
investment in an operating system called Tizen which it is jointly establishing
with Intel Corporation.
Technology ministry of China has said
in a white paper in March that the mobile industry of country is too reliant on
Android operating system of Google and it admired Chinese Internet giants
Alibaba Group Holding Limited and Baidu Inc that have developed their own systems.
