On Friday Nokia Corporation (ADR) (NYSE:NOK) has announced its desire to become a much larger technological
force in the vehicle, after years of being the mapmaker of auto industry. Nokia
has unveiled Here Auto which is an enclosed infotainment and connected car system.
The company hopes to sell it to the car manufacturers of the world.
Executive Vice President of
Nokia (Michael Halbherr) just shared the
broader connected car vision of Finnish phone manufacturer which will ultimately
include self-directed driving and incorporate the vehicle into future networks
of “smart city”. The disclosure of Here Auto is the initial step towards that
pathway.
As the name indicates, Here mapping and navigation of Nokia are at the heart of Here
Auto. The software contains all of the main features of its Windows Phone 8 app
such as 3D maps, real-time traffic, street-level imaging, points of interest
and local business search. But distinct from other enclosed navigation
systems, Here Auto is not subdivided, as said by Van-De-Klashorst. It is
the same app that the users can access on the Smartphone or through a browser of
PC. All of the bookmarked destinations, contacts and preferences and preferred
routes are stored in the cloud.
Nokia Lumia 1520, formerly
known as Bandit, is alleged
to feature a 6" 1080p display and operate on the newest Snapdragon 800
chipset. Other rumored specifications include a 20MP camera on the back side,
wireless charging backup, a body of polycarbonate and Windows Phone 8 GDR3. It
